چکیده

The Kronig-Penney model is used to study the effect of nonlinear interaction on the transmissive properties of both ordered and disordered chains. We found that nonlinearity can either localize or delocalize the electronic states in ordered systems depending on both its sign and strength but there exists a critical strength above which all states are localized. In the disordered case, however, we found that the transmission has a power law decay at the band edge of the corresponding periodic system T ≃ L . The exponent γ seems to be independent of the strength of the disorder in the case of barrier potentials, while it seems to vary linearly with the logarithm of this strength for mixed potentials. Extensive results on the effect of nonlinearity on the nature of the eigenstates are also provided. Keyword: Band spectrum, non-linearity, interaction, disorder.

The effect of material nonlinearity on the band gap for TE and TM modes in square and triangular lattices

In this article, by using the method of finite difference time domain (FDTD) and PML boundary conditions, we have studied the photonic band gaps for TE and TM modes in square and triangular lattices consisting of air holes in dielectric medium and compared the results. In addition, the effect of nonlinearity of the photonic crystal background on the photonic band gaps and comparison with the re...

Spreading in disordered lattices with different nonlinearities

We study the spreading of initially localized states in a nonlinear disordered lattice described by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with random on-site potentials —a nonlinear generalization of the Anderson model of localization. We use a nonlinear diffusion equation to describe the subdiffusive spreading. To confirm the self-similar nature of the evolution we characterize the peak structure...

Temperature dependence of thermal conductivity in 1D nonlinear lattices

We examine the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity of one dimensional nonlinear (anharmonic) lattices with and without on-site potential. It is found from computer simulation that the heat conductivity depends on temperature via the strength of nonlinearity. Based on this correlation, we make a conjecture in the effective phonon theory that the meanfree-path of the effective phonon i...

EFFECT OF THE NEXT-NEAREST NEIGHBOR INTERACTION ON THE ORDER-DISORDER PHASE TRANSITION

In this work, one and two-dimensional lattices are studied theoretically by a statistical mechanical approach. The nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions are both taken into account, and the approximate thermodynamic properties of the lattices are calculated. The results of our calculations show that: (1) even though the next-nearest neighbor interaction may have an insignificant ef...

Dissipative dynamics of matter-wave solitons in a nonlinear optical lattice

Dynamics and stability of solitons in two-dimensional 2D Bose-Einstein condensates BEC , with onedimensional 1D conservative plus dissipative nonlinear optical lattices, are investigated. In the case of focusing media with attractive atomic systems , the collapse of the wave packet is arrested by the dissipative periodic nonlinearity. The adiabatic variation of the background scattering length ...
